Event to Mark the 50th Anniversary of the Passage of the Civil Rights Act

On the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act, SiriusXM’s Joe Madison sits down with Luci Baines Johnson to discuss its legacy on Tuesday, June 3 from 1pm-2pm at the Newseum in Washington D.C.

Luci Baines Johnson, the younger daughter of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, will discuss her father’s role in passing the civil rights act, the climate 50 years later and the continued importance of the LBJ Presidential Library.  President Johnson signed the historic legislation on July 2, 1964, which prohibited discrimination on the basis of race, color and national origin.

In addition to the to the one-on-one conversation between Mrs. Baines Johnson and Madison, the one-hour town hall style event will have an interactive element featuring questions from an audience of SiriusXM listeners, students from D.C. universities and Newseum members.
